PAQS 2024 Digitalisation Towards a Smart Nation
Bandar Seri Begawan, 26 August 2024 – The Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS) and Pertubuhan Ukur Jurutera dan Arkitek (PUJA) Brunei proudly hosted the PAQS Congress 2024, themed “Digitalisation Towards a Smart Nation.” This prestigious event highlighted the transformative impact of digitization on the construction industry.
The Congress opened with the arrival of the guest of honour, Minister of Development, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda Bin Haji Abdul Rashid. This was followed by a welcoming address from PUJA President Sr. Haji Awang Mohammad Hanafi Bin Pehin Orang Kaya Di Gadong Seri Di Raja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Abdul Rahman. PAQS Chair Professor Anthony Mills then delivered the opening address, leading into a keynote speech and official opening by the Guest of Honour.
Organized by a dedicated committee from PUJA, led by Sr. Hajah Hajijah binti Haji Salleh, in collaboration with PAQS, the Congress was hosted at the Rizqun International Hotel. The event featured a distinguished lineup of international speakers from Australia, Brunei, Canada, China, Fiji, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, South Korea, and South Africa.
Keynote speakers included:

- Prof. Jason Pomeroy, Founding Principal, Pomeroy Studio
- Sr Dr. Ong See Lian, Director and Strategic Adviser, Turner and Townsend Malaysia
- Ir. Mohammad Nazri Mohammad Yusof, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications
- Ir. Chin Lee Tuck, Consulting Engineer and Chairman of the Engineers Division, PUJA Brunei
- S. Malintha H. Fernando, PAQS-IWATA Foundation Essay Competition 2024 Winner
The Congress included concurrent sessions featuring a diverse array of presentations from additional speakers beyond the keynote presenters.
The event attracted up to 300+ attendees, including PUJA members, surveyors, engineers, architects, and representatives from various ministries. The Congress aimed to highlight Brunei’s dedication to advancing the fields of surveying, engineering, and architecture on the global stage.
