PUJA Brunei attends Islamic Architecture Symposium 2026
Bandar Seri Begawan, 14 June 2026 – The Islamic Architecture Symposium 2026, themed “The Barakah of Building: Architectural and Sustainable Practices in Brunei Darussalam”, was successfully held from 10 to 14 June 2026 at the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Islamic Khazanah Hall.
The symposium was jointly organised by Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and the Ministry of Development, in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Universiti Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA). The event brought together architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, developers, academics, students and members of the public to explore sustainable development practices rooted in Islamic values and principles.

The opening ceremony was graced by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy, in his capacity as Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. The symposium also featured a keynote address by Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Ar. Awang Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, Chairman of PUJA Brunei, who shared insights on the role of architecture and the built environment in advancing sustainable development while preserving Brunei Darussalam’s cultural and Islamic identity.

Held over four days, the symposium served as a platform for knowledge exchange and professional discourse, highlighting how ethical design, environmental stewardship and the philosophy of Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB) can contribute to the development of resilient, sustainable and socially beneficial built environments. Participants benefitted from keynote presentations, research paper sessions, professional exhibitions, educational site visits and discussions on green technology innovations and sustainable design solutions.
The symposium reinforced the importance of integrating sustainability, cultural heritage, and Islamic values into contemporary architectural and development practices, while fostering collaboration among professionals, researchers and institutions committed to shaping the future of Brunei Darussalam’s built environment sector.
