Institute of Engineers President, Ir. Chin Lee Tuck Represents AAET at High-Level China–ASEAN Closed-Door Meeting on Artificial Intelligence Governance

The ASEAN engineering community marked another significant milestone in regional technology cooperation as Ir. Chin Lee Tuck, Council Member and Fellow of the ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology (AAET), was invited to participate in the exclusive Meeting of the 2026 China–ASEAN AI Capacity Building Training Program and High-Level Seminar on AI Frontier Technologies and Governance.
The session, held at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Sungai Long Campus, brought together leading experts, distinguished guests, and strategic stakeholders from across the region to deliberate on the advancement, governance, and responsible deployment of emerging artificial intelligence technologies.
The discussions focused on a broad range of priority areas, including:
Establishment of joint laboratories;
Technology transfer and innovation pathways;
The China–ASEAN AI Cooperation Network;
AI Forum for the Global South;
Development of ASEAN sovereign large AI models;
AI ethics, governance standards, and talent development;
Consolidation of collaboration frameworks rooted in equity, mutual benefit, and good governance.
The presence of Ir. Chin Lee Tuck highlights both his distinguished contributions to regional engineering advancement and the increasingly important role of Brunei’s engineering leadership within the evolving AI landscape of ASEAN. His extensive involvement in cross-border collaboration, research, and professional engineering development positions him as a valuable contributor to the region’s strategic dialogue on future AI ecosystems.
The meeting represents a critical step toward strengthening China–ASEAN cooperation in AI governance, capacity-building, and technological innovation, setting the foundation for deeper cooperation in the years ahead.
