PUJA Brunei Delegation Participates in PAQS Congress 2026 in Colombo, Sri Lanka

Colombo, Sri Lanka, 21st August, 2026 – A delegation from the Institute of Surveyors, Engineers and Architects, PUJA Brunei participated in the Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS) Congress 2026, held in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 21st to 25th August 2026, under the theme “Constructing The Evolution: Unleashing The Human Intelligence.” As a full member of the PAQS, PUJA Brunei took part in all scheduled events, including the Young Quantity Surveyors (YQS) Forum, Pre-Congress Committee Meetings, Board Meetings, and the two-day conference. PAQS works to promote the practice of quantity surveying, cost engineering, and cost management across the region, while championing best practices, facilitating dialogue among member countries, and encouraging cross-border collaboration and research.

The Brunei delegation comprised eight representatives: 

• Sr. Ambrose Shim; 
• Sr. Mohammad Hanafi Bin POKDGSDRDLU Haji Awg Abdul Rahman; 
• Sr. John Wong Chee Kwong; 
• Sr. Hjh. Wan Farhani Hj. Suhaili; 
• Sr. Haji Muhammad Haziq bin Haji Zariful; 
• Hanisah Raaqiaa Binti Hj Awg Jarudin; 
• Mohamad Haziq Samsulbahri; and 
• Muhammad Azharruddin Bin Muhammad Affendi.

The congress featured keynote presentations by Prof. Charles Egbu, Prof. Janaka Ruwanpura, and A/Prof. Sr. Dr. Eugene Seah, focusing on the future of quantity surveying, sustainability, and the role of artificial intelligence in the profession. These were complemented by parallel sessions on cost intelligence, commercial intelligence, sustainable and resilient built environments, and project delivery, risk and governance. As part of the YQS Forum, Young Quantity Surveyors from PUJA Brunei also presented a country report on the delegation’s project activities.

The congress recognised outstanding professionals through several award categories, including the PAQS Service Excellence Award, Academic Excellence Award, Technical Innovation Excellence Award, and Young QS Achievers Award.

Through its participation, the Brunei delegation gained valuable insights, including the importance of closer collaboration between government agencies, professional institutions, consultants, contractors and academia; the use of AI and digital tools in cost management, estimating and project monitoring; and the advancement of sustainable construction practices locally. PUJA Brunei remains committed to applying these insights to strengthen the quantity surveying profession and support the continued development of Brunei’s built environment sector.
