PUJA (B) Academy Sdn Bhd Hosts “Generative AI for Engineers” Workshop
Bandar Seri Begawan, 3rd October 2026 – PUJA (B) Academy Sdn Bhd (PASB) conducted its “Generative AI for Engineers: A Practical Hands-on Workshop Using ChatGPT & Gemini” on Saturday, 3rd October 2026, at Syndicate Room 5, BRIDEX Banquet Hall. The full-day workshop, held from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, drew 61 participants, and were awarded 6 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points upon completion. This initiative is closely aligned with one of PUJA’s Strategic Core objectives of improving the quality of professional competencies and developing the skills and knowledge transfer.

The workshop was facilitated by Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Azlan bin Ab Aziz, a Professional Engineer, researcher, innovator and educator currently serving as Deputy Director of the Centre of Research in Agriculture & Food Technology at Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB). An ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer and Professional Engineer (BEM) specialising in AIoT, Embedded Systems, Edge Computing and Smart Engineering, Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Azlan brought both technical depth and practical insight to the session.
Participants were guided through a comprehensive programme covering the fundamentals of generative AI and effective prompting, followed by hands-on sessions on AI-assisted engineering information retrieval, technical drawing interpretation, and engineering brainstorming and concept development. Sessions were tailored across key disciplines, such as civil engineering, structural engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical & electronic engineering, and technical documentation, giving participants discipline-specific context for applying these tools in their own work. The afternoon session focused on applying AI to engineering design and planning, discipline-specific applications, and engineering review, safety and reporting, before culminating in a group challenge and presentation.

Sharing his perspective on the role of AI in engineering practice, Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Azlan noted that “the use of AI is not meant to replace the entire engineering process rather it serves as a foundation for the work, a form of brainstorming that helps engineers think through problems faster and more creatively, before applying their own professional judgement and verification.”
This workshop also reflects PUJA’s broader contribution to Brunei’s Wawasan 2035 aspirations, particularly through fostering closer collaboration in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and supporting the upskilling and reskilling of professionals to remain relevant amid rapidly evolving technologies. By equipping participants with practical AI competencies, PUJA Brunei continues to play its part in strengthening a knowledgeable, skilled and adaptable workforce in line with the nation’s long-term vision.

A certificate of appreciation was presented to the speaker, Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Azlan by YM Dato Seri Paduka Ar. Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, PUJA (B) Chairman, in recognition of his contribution to the workshop. Closing remarks were delivered by the Managing Director of PASB, Ir. Hajah Fatimah binte Haji Md Ali, who thanked all those who had helped make the event a success and welcomed participants to PUJA’s future programmes. The workshop reflected PUJA Academy Sdn Bhd’s continued commitment to equipping its members with practical, future-ready skills, reinforcing the organisation’s mission of promoting awareness, improving knowledge and enhancing experience within Brunei’s professional community.
